To undertake the applied and fundamental research that resolves
problems of nodulation and
nitrogen fixation
in grain, prairie, and pasture legumes.

To maintain collections of rhizobia
from hosts of interest, and to make such rhizobia available to
other scientists, farmers and inoculant
manufacturers.

To serve as a center for the national and international exchange
of information on legume inoculants and inoculant usage.

To contribute to a more sustainable
agricultural system in Minnesota and abroad.
