  • To undertake the applied and fundamental research that resolves problems of nodulation and nitrogen fixation in grain, prairie, and pasture legumes.

  • To maintain collections of rhizobia from hosts of interest, and to make such rhizobia available to other scientists, farmers and inoculant manufacturers.

  • To serve as a center for the national and international exchange of information on legume inoculants and inoculant usage.

  • To contribute to a more sustainable agricultural system in Minnesota and abroad.
